Registration for 24 Hours of Booty kicks off Jan. 5

CHARLOTTE – 24 Hours of Booty, Inc., which runs the Official 24-Hour Cycling Event of LIVESTRONG and the only national 24-hour road cycling charity event in the country, announced today that it will be kicking off registration for its three events, including the 10th Annual 24 Hours of Booty presented by Blumenthal Cancer Center in Charlotte, on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011 at 9 a.m.

The annual charity cycling event in Charlotte – geared for teams and individuals and open to participants of all ages and skill levels – is scheduled to roll on the “Booty Loop” in Myers Park from 7 p.m. Friday, July 29 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2011. Event registration will be capped at the first 1,200 registrants. Carolinas Medical Center’s Blumenthal Cancer Center is the presenting sponsor of this year’s event where participants gather at the Queens University of Charlotte athletic fields for camping, food and fun. Man hands over stick-up note at bank, then walks away without any money

MOORESVILLE - Police are investigating a strange attempted robbery which happened at a Bank of America on Friday.

Mooresville Police Department responded to 368 West Plaza Drive just after 4 p.m.  Upon arrival, witnesses told police that the suspect approached the teller and displayed a note demanding cash.  The note also indicated that he was holding a weapon.

MOORESVILLE - A Mooresville man is charged with rape following an investigation which began in early October.

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a report on October 10.  In the report, a 53-year-old woman said that Anthony Dane Ellis, 48, recently assaulted her.

PLAZA FIESTA - The Plaza Fiesta, near Carowinds amusement park, is hosting an open casting call to be held for the Showtime series pilot "Homeland" starring Claire Danes.

HOMELAND is a new one-hour drama pilot from the Emmy Award winning executive producers of 24, to star actress Claire Danes. The series is loosely based on Gideon Raff's Israeli television series "Prisoners of War."

Production will begin this January in the Charlotte area and the pilot will be executive produced by Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa (24, X-Files). Michael Cuesta (DEXTER) is set to direct.

HUNTERSVILLE - An overflow crowd of more than 1,500 parents, teachers and students packed the gymnasium at Bradley Middle School for a Winter Dance Concert Thursday evening at the campus on Beatties Ford Road in Huntersville.

300 7th and 8th grade students performed more than 20 high-energy dance routines to music of today and yesterday, including Michael Jackson’s “Man In The Mirror”.

The co-ed dance groups have practiced for months leading up to the concert and are led by dance instructors Debbie Gresham and Stephanie Hebard.

Thousands of businesses not listed with the tax office

MECKLENBURG COUNTY - Businesses that have not listed the true value of their business property in Mecklenburg County have until December 10 to complete the listing with the Mecklenburg County Assessor’s Office.

The Assessor sent a total of 16,646 bills this week seeking payment of taxes on those businesses’ properties.

Some of the businesses have failed to list properties and pay tax on those properties for as many as five years. The total amount of the tax, penalties and interest is valued at $430 million.
