Sunshine is back, but for how long?

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- The sunshine is back, but only for a limited time!

For the third straight weekend, rain is in the forecast as an area of low pressure moves in from the west.

Friday will start off sunny, but clouds build in for the afternoon with a few showers possible in the evening.  The major moisture surge moves in Saturday, with showers and thunderstorms making a return along our next cold front.

The rain should taper off early Sunday, followed by much cooler temperatures early next week.

Women waiting longer to start a family

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- Perhaps you've put off pregnancy for your career or you've been trying for a baby for a while, and your 40th has come and gone.

Or perhaps you're like Kelly Sapyta who found the right partner later in life.

"I didn't get married until I was 37."

The burning question for you now might be, "is it too late to have a baby?"

"My husband had a vasectomy and we decided to have it reversed and it worked," said Sapyta.

Kelly gave birth to her first baby at 41.

Couple years later came baby number two.

He was an unexpected addition to the family.

"Everyone loves it nobody can believe it," Sapyta added.

"More and more women are having babies later on in life 30's and even 40's and that's a function of a lot of things, said," OBGYN Dr. Jim Bomer with the Rankin Women's Center.

WBTV hosting a pet microchipping clinic

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- Beth Carroll describes her cat, Jack, as a cat's cat.

"He likes to chase things, play with the other cat, and he likes to do things his way.  He also likes to go outside," Carroll said.

It is when Jack gets outside that things have gone wrong for the family.

During a family move a few years ago, Jack got out and was missing for 13 months.  His family thought they'd never see him again.  Then a vet called to say Jack had shown up in his office.

"Just to know that he was 12 or 13 miles from where he started is crazy. I have no idea what he did during that time," Carroll said.

Just a few months ago, Jack did it again, and was gone for three days until Animal Care and Control called to say he was with them.

Davidson joins the Atlantic 10

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- July 1, 2014 will mark a new day for athletics at Davidson.  On that day, the college will join the Atlantic 10 Conference.

19 of Davidson's 21 sports programs will play in the new conference.  The football program will remain in the Pioneer Football League and the wrestling program will look to continue to compete in the Southern Conference.

Davidson will sever ties with the Southern Conference to join the A-10.  The Wildcats first joined the SoCon back in 1936.

This is a big move for Davidson as the A-10 has a more national appeal with teams in Philadelphia, Washington D.C., St. Louis, and New York.

Do beauty products provide cures or are they all just hype?

Do beauty products provide cures or are they all just hype?

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- It seems like everybody is looking for the fountain of youth.

And doctors say over-the-counter products can help.

When 70-year-old Janice McEwen looks at the damage to her skin over the years, she is startled.

"This past year we found we had some squeamish cells," said Janice.

Dermatologist Ronea Harris explains to McEwen that sun damage has led to this problem.

Dr. Harris says that aside from avoiding the sun from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., purchasing the proper sunscreen and other beauty products is important.

But to keep your skin looking young and preventing serious skin conditions you need to take a close look at what's on the label.

She says the key is whether over-the-counter products are giving accurate information on their labels.

"They really offer a lot of promises however it takes time to deliver the promises that they are offering," said Dr. Harris.
