Brewers Festival offers discount for designated drivers

Historic Rural Hill is hosting its 3rd Annual North Carolina Brewers and Music Festival this weekend.

Seven bands are set to perform at the event, including Brushfire Stankgrass, Milkdrive, Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds, Sol Driven Train, Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band, and Acoustic Syndicate.

The festival offers over three hours of free craft-brew tastings, a day of great music, food, and activities for the kids.

Festival-goers can catch the fun at Historic Rural Hill, located at 4431 Neck Road in Huntersville, Saturday May 11, at 11:30 a.m.

Symphony goes "looney" with cartoon hits

Davidson College is inviting the public to a free concert this week.

The Davidson College Symphony Orchestra is going "looney" with an assortment of music from favorite cartoons, including pieces by Rossini, Liszt, Offenbach, Wagner, Ponchielli and Dukas.

Concert-goers can catch the performance at the Duke Family Performance Hall, located at 102 North main Street in Davidson, Wednesday April 24, at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Student musicians give free concert

Davidson College is inviting the public to a free concert this week.

This season's final Musical Interludes performance features Davidson student musicians performing a repertoire they have mastered during their time at Davidson.

Music lovers can catch the concert at Davidson College's Tyler-Tallman Hall, located at 102 North Main Street in Davidson, Friday April 19, at 12:30 p.m.

College closes Concert Series with Davidson Trio

The Davidson College is inviting the public to a concert this weekend.

The illustrious Davidson Trio of violinists Rosemary Furniss, cellist Alan Black, and pianist Dana Protopopescu returns to campus to close this season's Concert Series.

The program features Beethoven's Piano Trio Op. 1, No. 3, Turina's Fantasia for piano, violin and cello, Op. 91, and Brahms' Piano Trio in C Major, Op.87, No. 2.

Concert-goers can catch the performance at Davidson College's Tyler-Tallman Hall, located at 102 North Main Street in Davidson, Sunday April 7, at 3 p.m.

Public invited to free evening of Spanish poetry

The Davidson College is inviting the public to a free evening of Spanish poetry this week.

Audience members can enjoy the poetry of University of Virginia's Professor of Hispanic Studies Fernando Opere.

Opere is set to read La Vuelta Mundo en 80 Poems, an illustrated presentation of his newest collection.

Poetry lovers can catch the presentation at Davidson College's Alvarez College Union, located at 207 Faculty Drive in Davidson, Thursday April 4, at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Discovery Place, Inc. was ranked as the third most visited museum and historic attraction in North Carolina during 2012, according to an annual survey released by Carolina Publishing Associates. 

For the third year in a row, the organization also ranked as the most visited museum and historic attraction in the Charlotte region.

Visited by 762,261 guests in 2012, Discovery Place Inc.’s attendance included visitation to Discovery Place, Charlotte Nature Museum and Discovery Place KIDS–Huntersville.

“Hands-on science centers as educational resources are critical to our future and encourage children to discover science, technology, engineering and math,” said John Mackay, president and CEO, Discovery Place, Inc. “The breadth and depth of what Discovery Place does encompasses exhibits, shows, programming, lab activities, outreach initiatives, professional development, and more.
