Asian Festival & Dragon Boat Festival

Asian Festival & Dragon Boat Festival
CORNELIUS, NC (WBTV) - Everyone's invited to the 13th Annual Charlotte Asian Festival!  Celebrate Asian cultures, diversity, ethnicity, roots and history.

The 7th Annual Charlotte Dragon Boat Festival Race is an exciting team competition. An important part of the Chinese traditional calendar, dragon boat racing originated over 2,300 years ago on the life-sustaining rivers of southern China.

The Charlotte race is an open competition to anyone 15 years of age or older. The Charlotte Asian Festival and Dragon Boat Festival Race are organized by the Carolinas Asian-American Chamber of Commerce, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, and the Charlotte Dragon Boat Association.

In the 1960s, there were fewer than 200 Asians and only eight Asian businesses in Charlotte.

Ceremony to mark purchase of park land in Davidson

DAVIDSON - The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department and the Davidson Lands Conservancy invite the public to a ceremony marking the County’s recent purchase of the former 242-acre Abersham development off Grey and Shearer roads in Davidson.

The ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., will serve as a dedication for the area’s newest preserved park land.

“The Abersham purchase is a rare opportunity to preserve a unique site for natural resources protection and passive recreation,” said Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Director Jim Garges. “With this purchase, over 600 acres are within the new park area. The Trust for Public Land was an active partner in the purchase and we appreciate all the work they did.”
